Gnats, Flies, or Product Pests

Gnats, Flies, or Product Pests

We recommend locating the source and removing the source.  For gnats we recommend keeping the kitchen area clear of dishes, food and keeping the sink dry of any standing water.  Do not leave fruit out, empty trash cans regularly in the kitchen and around the home.  The gnats are also attracted to moist and damp areas or places that may contain fungus.  We advise placing any inside plants outside and moving away any plants near the front door.  The gnats like to lay their eggs in the damp soil.  Also, checking any areas where a water leak is possible, bathrooms, a/c lines, sinks, walls, and getting the leak repaired and the area remediated to remove any possible remnants of fungus or mold. If your garbage disposal is broken it can also attract them to that location.

For flies we recommend locating the source and removing it and good sanitation.  The source could be a rodent that has recently died. It takes about 4-6 days for flies to die.  Keeping outside trash cans clean and household garbage bagged.  We also recommend reviewing any entry points and closing them up.

For product pests (i.e. weevils) we recommend again locating the source and inspecting all cupboards/cabinets of grains, cereals, nuts, flours, pet food and remove them from the home.  If there is an infestation, new food products brought into the house can be contaminated.

Although we do not offer a treatment for these types of insects, we are happy to try and identify a source on our regular visits as well as offer useful tips and suggestions on how to reduce their population.
